About me
(Johnson and Profile Portraits, 2024)
I am an emerging performer and theatre maker based in London. My Bachelor’s degree in European Theatre Arts, has trained me as an interdisciplinary artist, so as well as taking on performing roles, I am looking to direct and devise theatre.
In addition to my Bachelor’s degree at Rose Bruford College, I have trained with The Television Workshop, Curve Theatre and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (which deepened my experience of the performing arts across cultures and widened my artistic vision).
Musicality and dance are both elements I like to incorporate in my work. I have experience with musical theatre and a range of dance styles, with a particular strength in tap dancing. In terms of musicality, I read music, sing and play the violin.
Asides from my training, I have also had a range of experience in the industry. From working on a film set to volunteering and performing with Bamboozle Theatre Company (who create theatre for children with disabilities and their families). As I carve my own path in the industry, I look forward to apply my versatile training and experience to create meaningful and experimental work.
My Vision
I look to create a style of community theatre that is, meaningful and eco-friendly. I intend to use comedy, music and dance to create a contemporary blend of theatre that can be used to address socio-political issues in an approachable, accessible manner. I have a desire to break conventional theatrical boundaries, explore using non-conventional theatrical spaces, engaging different senses and drawing from my training abroad and experience with different European practitioners to explore universal methods of communication. I am excited to work with other like-minded people to work towards this vision, as a performer, collaborator and director.
My Values
Values that are important to my work
- Environmental sustainability – Caring for and educating about the environmental crisis is key to my practice. This is something I want to focus on in my own work and bring to the attention of my collaborators and other professionals to work towards a more eco-friendly industry.
- Accessibility – It is important to me that all work I perform in or create allows all audiences to engage.
- Socio-political – To me the arts have always been an effective tool of advocation and education. I want to be aware of this and how art can be used to address occurring issues in the government, industry and highlight inequality and injustice, when creating work.
- Experimental – I want to continue exploring and making new innovative discoveries in the arts, colliding different disciplines and working outside of traditional theatre expectations.
- Fun – Ultimately, I believe the most important aspect of performance is that it brings joy to both the audience and cast and crew.
